Technical Design Engineer

Green Recruitment Solutions is currently amid a search for a highly skilled and professional Technical Design Engineer; for this growing Solar PV & Battery Storage organisation. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working autonomously, be highly proficient in technical, electrical, civil, thermal and design skills/engineering- related to Solar PV and/or Battery Storage- whilst also possessing a solid background in working, and guidance of, teams at senior level; especially during the origination stages of a business.The ideal person must also be extremely comfortable with both working from a central UK location, but also open to travel, for internationally based projects; as far and wide as Indonesia, Hong-Kong. Overall, the role will suit an experienced and proactive technical leader, who is ready to embark on a challenging and rewarding chapter of their career. Responsibilities & Experience Required: 

  • Support the development and planning department assessing the feasibility of utility scale energy projects, preparing initial layouts and simulations
  • Prepare and submit grid applications, discuss options with the DNOs and the development department and review offers to assess the project feasibility and any possible constraints
  • Prepare all planning drawings and layouts required by the development department, undertaking site surveys, when required
  • Support the legal department reviewing the legal documentation and preparing all required drawings and layouts
  • Prepare preliminary designs on AutoCAD and simulations on PVSyst for the project leads brought by the sales and commercial department and review proposals
  • Prepare final and detailed designs and support project managers during the construction of the projects
  • When detailed design is outsourced, provide all required information and guidance to the relevant company and review all the work done to make sure it complies with the requirements
  • Act as the Grid Connection Manager liaising between the DNO, ICP and EPC when required
  • Attend technical and/or commercial meetings when required
  • Maintain a good relationship with suppliers and partner companies
  • Assess possible suppliers for different or new markets and RFQs to select the correct partners and products, confirming that these comply with project requirements and company standards and goals
  • Ability to advise the company and internal teams on technology and how to proceed when required
  • Work together with partner companies to develop, test and improve the new products
  • Support the teams preparing DD folders for investors and review DD folders when acquisitions are made
  • Assist in other duties as requested by the clients team
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes including anti-bribery policy.
  Essential Requirements:
  • Previous experience in a lead technical role within the renewables market is essential
  • Degree or an equivalent level of qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Technically adept with all aspects of PV park systems design and/or battery storage and hybrid systems
  • Electrical, mechanical and civil skills to assess the feasibility, risks, issues and solutions for a specific project
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of design regulations
  • Commercial awareness, a self-starter with a flexible mindset
  • High accuracy and attention to detail is a must
  • Excellent written skills and communication skills, ability to converse in other European languages would be an advantage
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to priorities and manage number of tasks concurrently
  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders across different levels in and out of the organization
  • Team player, keen to support the different teams and mentor any new member. A “doer and can-do attitude”
  • Ability to adapt to different market requirements and technologies and to liaise with multicultural organisations
  • UK Driving license
  • May be required to travel nationally and internationally world-wide
  Working Knowledge Required:
  • AutoCAD (Full, LT, Civil 3D) and capability to create designs and legal and planning drawings as well as electrical schematics
  • PVSyst for both grid connected and off-grid systems, performing simulations considering the 3D modelling and retrieving the hourly data for following financial and technical detailed calculations
  • Different weather data sources like SolarGIS, NASA, PVGIS and Meteonorm and how to work with them to perform the yield simulations
  • Solar PV (roof-top and ground-mounted) design, construction, testing and commissioning
  • DC and AC diesel and gas generators and the integration of these with Solar PV and batteries
  • Batteries, different technologies, properties, advantages and disadvantages and the integration of these with Solar PV and generators
  • Market knowledge, suppliers and companies for different products and services
  • Advanced excel and macro creation and amendments.
